The Americans With Disabilities Act (ADA) gives civil rights to individuals with disabilities that are similar to those provided to individuals on the basis of race, sex, national origin, and religion. It guarantees equal opportunity for individuals with disabilities in employment, public accommodations, transportation, state and local government services, and telecommunications. The ADA is a civil rights statute, not a transportation or social service statute. The ADA requires that transit agencies provide "complementary paratransit" services to individuals who, due to a disability, are not capable of using the LeeTran fixed route bus service. Eligibility for complementary paratransit services (LeeTran Passport Service) is based upon the nature of the individuals disability and upon the origin and destination of the requested trip. Once you are determined to be ADA eligible, the origin and destination of the trip itself must be within a ¾-mile distance from a fixed route to be an eligible trip. Both you and the trip must be eligible before ADA Passport Service is provided. |
